Every year CUPW Victoria participates in the Moose Hide Campaign, a movement that began as a grassroots initiative in Canada and has grown into a powerful force for change. The campaign’s mission is simple yet profound: to end violence against women and children, particularly Indigenous women and girls, and to promote reconciliation and healing through collective action.
What is the Moose Hide Campaign?
Started by Paul Lacerte and his daughter Raven in 2011, the Moose Hide Campaign was inspired during a hunting trip along the Highway of Tears—a stretch of road in British Columbia known for the high number of Indigenous women who have gone missing or been murdered there. The father-daughter duo harvested a moose and decided to use its hide to create small squares as a symbol of their commitment to stand up against gender-based violence.
Wearing a moose hide pin is a visible act of solidarity, a commitment to a safer future. Today, millions of pins have been distributed, and the campaign continues to grow in reach and impact, calling on men and boys to take a stand alongside women and children.

Final Thoughts
Participating in the Moose Hide Campaign can be more than just a one-day event — it can be a commitment to be better, to do better, and to walk alongside others in this journey of healing and justice. It's about showing up, not just once, but continuously, in big and small ways.
If we all take steps—together—we can create a future where violence is not tolerated and everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
